Indian one-day captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has attracted the highest price in the 1st round of the Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction.
The Chennai franchise paid more than $1.6 million for the rights to MS Dhoni.
Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds become the second player to attract a bid higher than $1 million for the IPL, with the Hyderabad franchise winning the rights to Symonds for almost $1.5 million.
Australian pace spearhead Brett Lee was bought for almost $1 million.
Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist went for $750,000 and former Australian leg spinner Shane Warne sold for more than $480,000.
Australian captain Ricky Ponting and opener Matthew Hayden both went for more than $400,000.
However former Australian pace bowler Glenn McGrath has failed to attract any interest.
McGrath will return to the reserve pool after failing to attract an opening bid in the auction's second round.
Controversial Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh went for more than $900,000.
Chennai has paid $650,000 for Sir Lankan spinner Mutiah Muralitharan, while Murali's Sri Lankan team-mate Sanath Jayasuriya sold for more than $1 million.
